The Scripture ~ “The teaching of the Lord revives the soul.” Psalm 19:7

The Spiritual Focus ~ “Belief consists in accepting the affirmations of the soul; unbelief, in denying them.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

The Devotion ~ One of the most powerful experiences most of us have as students of yoga, is the experience of learning to listen to our body. In listening to our body we learn what the body needs or doesn’t need, on and off the mat. In listening to our body we take responsibility for adjusting and adapting our breath, our asana, for the greatest benefit in our yoga practice. Learning to listen to our body is a foundation for learning to listen to our soul, the spirit of Christ within. When we listen deeply we are taught about and experience the healing power of Christ love.

The companion gospel story to today’s Psalm is the story of Jesus teaching and proclaiming the spirit of the Lord was on him, that he was the anointed one. The priests and people in the synagogue did not believe him. Although they did not believe his teaching that did not stop him from proclaiming that he had come to bring healing to the people.

As people of faith we too are anointed. When we practice listening to our body, our mind and our soul our belief is affirmed. In listening to the internal Teacher, our souls are revived, our body is healed. When we take that message off the mat in the way we live, we bring healing to the whole body of Christ, all people.
