Sunday Nov. 8, 2015 Week 2
The Scripture ~ Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
God’s greatness is unsearchable. Psalm 145:3
The Spiritual Focus ~ The highest form of worship is the worship of unselfish Christian service. The greatest form of praise is the sound of consecrated feet seeking out the lost and helpless. Attributed to Rev. Billy Graham
The Devotion ~ Praise and worship, are acts of adoration for the One who has created us and loves us. In church, praise and worship is the singing of familiar hymns, praise songs and prayer. We praise and worship God for who God is. For many of us singing, closing our eyes and folding our hands is the physical way we were taught to express our adoration for God. These are beautiful ways to focus on the object of our worship.
Fr. Tom Ryan, Paulist Priest and yoga teacher, taught at a Yogadevotion retreat years ago that every movement of hands and feet, eye gaze and breath, set with an intention to adore God is an act of praise and worship. Yogadevotion has embraced that belief since its inception.
When we raise our hands, when we look to the heavens, when we ground down through our feet and draw a breath, with an intention to praise God is worship. When we take what we learn in praising God off the mat, praising God for who God is, we participate in the highest form of worship. The highest form of praising and worshiping God is loving and caring for our neighbors.
