The Scripture ~ And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Hebrews 10:24-25
The Spiritual Focus ~ The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing. Albert Einstein
The Devotion ~ Communicatio Santorum is a beautiful Latin phrase that means community of saints. Many of us think of God as singular or Trinitarian but from the very beginning of scripture God speaks of community. In one of the creation stories in Genesis, God says, “ let US make humankind in OUR image.” God and the heavenly hosts are a community that creates and values relationship.
We were created to be in relationship with God and each other because none of us can get through life on our own. When those relationships break down, we pause and are reminded to step back from actions that do not move us toward being a loving community.
In yoga we are encouraged to BE, to be still. Many faith practices are uncomfortable with stillness and encourage us to action, believing that faith without action is a dead faith. The truth is somewhere in between….an “and/both” balance. We practice BEing present to God, enjoying that relationship. We learn from the life of Jesus how to live in community, how to move from stillness to action. In this way we encourage each other to BE and to act with good deeds toward love.
